Gender-Based Violence
Gender-based violence undermines the health, dignity, security, and autonomy of its victims, yet it remains shrouded in a culture of silence.
Victims of violence can suffer sexual and reproductive health consequences, including forced and unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, traumatic fistula, sexually transmitted infections including HIV, or even death.
We recognize the strength and resilience of all survivors and support them with services that allow them to recover, heal, and thrive. Our interventions are driven by the voices and needs of survivors and we prioritize their contribution in devising solutions. We offer psychosocial assistance, safe shelter and spaces, medical treatment, and rape kits to survivors.
We also work with communities to reduce risk, increase support for survivors, and build partnerships with law enforcement organs, local leaders, and other like-minded organizations to promote and protect the rights of girls and women. This approach enables Empower Rwanda to meet the safety, health, psychosocial, legal, and economic needs of survivors and empower communities to lead efforts that challenge beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that perpetuate or condone violence against girls and women,
